The main entry for drivers off the Stena ferry. The A20 and A4 take you from the port to Rotterdam in half an hour and to Amsterdam in about an hour, with fast charging at the service areas along the A4 and at the hubs on both cities’ ring roads. easyCharging shows them live, so the first stop on the Continent is planned before you leave the ship.
The road to the Ruhr. Utrecht is the hub of the Dutch motorway network and its service areas are thick with fast chargers; from there the A12 runs past Arnhem to the German border at Emmerich, and Cologne is under three hours from Amsterdam. Live availability is shown in the app on both sides of the border.
South to Belgium in about an hour and a quarter, past Breda and over the border to Antwerp, with Brussels another hour beyond. Fast charging sits at the service areas on the A16, and the same app and account keep working on Belgian chargers — no second app when the signs change language.
North over the Afsluitdijk, the 32 km dam across the IJsselmeer — one of the few stretches signed at 130 km/h all day — to Friesland and Groningen. Charging thins out once you are past the dam, so easyCharging’s live view of the service areas is worth a look before you leave the A7’s last big stop.
The spine of the south. The A2 runs from Utrecht past ’s-Hertogenbosch to Eindhoven in an hour and on to Maastricht, with fast chargers at its service areas the whole way and Liège or Aachen within reach beyond. The app shows compatible stations across the Belgian and German borders too.
Down the coast past The Hague to the beaches and delta works of Zeeland, then under the Westerschelde by tunnel — toll-free for cars under 3 m since the end of 2024 — into Belgium at Antwerp or Ghent. Under EU rules, every public charger installed since April 2024 must accept a payment without a contract, and new fast chargers of 50 kW and more must take bank cards.
